I like cars.
I like cars a lot.
I like to drive them, I like to look at them, I like to read about them…
Even though I work in the automotive industry for over 30 years, my pastimes are frequently associated with cars.
Some time ago I started a DVD collection of movies somehow associated with cars.
I have DVDs with Steve McQueen (Le Mans), James Garner “(Grand Prix), and Tom Cruise (Days of Thunder). I have cartoons like “Cars 1 & 2” and “Speed Racer”…
Since I was home alone last weekend, I decided to watch ” Fast and Furious 5 & 6 ” from my collection.
If you have seen any of the movies from that series you know that Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and their team play a group of outlaws that drive very fast and cool cars in their quite unrealistic adventures.
What struck me as I watched those films was that suddenly I caught myself cheering for the outlaws, as they committed all kinds of crimes (with the purest motives), while the guys on the law side were frequently corrupt or stupid.
The line between legal and illegal, right and wrong was completely blurred.
The problem is that the real world is not much different. Lying, cheating, stealing… became acceptable, as long as the motives justify it.
Where does it stop? When does omitting become lying? When does the thought become cheating? When does a desire become stealing?
I am not sure I know the answer upfront, but I know that if I am in tune with the Holy Spirit of God, He will show me right from wrong.
And the funny thing is that I will still have freedom to decide.
Doing the right thing is still a matter of choice.
