A few years ago my son Jay was visiting Buenos Aires, in Argentina with my sister when he saw a miniature replica of the Formula 1 car that was driven by my favorite driver in the 1980’s and 90’s: Ayrton Senna.
He bought it for me, and for our surprise it was actually a slot car, which was one of my favorite past times when I was a preteen.
I remember spending hours with my friends playing with the little cars, and fixing them.
So, when Jay brought me the car, I immediately went to my basement, got my 40 year old track, assembled it, and after some hours repairing it, I was racing my new Formula 1.
After that, I made several improvements to the track, added some scenery, bought other cars and turned it into my stress relieving activity.
Spending time working and playing with the slot cars brings back great memories of those years: the sound, the smell, the colors…
Don’t we all have moments when we would like to re-live special situations from our past?
That childhood memory, the unforgettable vacation, the day we accepted the Lord, a special friend, a kiss, our wedding, the kids birth… I love to remember those.
Sometimes there is another type of longing in our hearts that is hard to explain. Something deeper.
That is when we long to be in the Lord’s presence, as if it was a good childhood memory.
There is a warm feeling that fills our soul when we think about the day we will be home.
Take a break now. Breath deeply and think about it.
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, o God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?”
Psalms 42:1-2
