I can still remember 1982, when I started dating the girl that would become my wife.
We had known each other for almost 6 years, and had been friends for quite a while.
But regardless of that, one of the things we invested a lot of time was in getting to know each other better.
Not because we needed to find out if there was something that we needed to know before further commitment. That was not the reason.
We just wanted to know better the person we loved. We wanted to hear every story, every detail we could get.
I remember going to this public square near where we lived, buying ice cream, and sitting there for hours, just talking.
The more we learned about each other, the more our love grew.
When we were away, we couldn’t wait to be together again.
Last Sunday we were in church singing about our love for God, so I started thinking if I am investing enough time to know Him better.
I have known Him for years, but like in my relationship above, I am talking about a much deeper level of knowledge.
When I was writing this, the verses that came to my mind were Psalm 42:1, 2, where it says:
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?”
It sounded like someone who is really passionate.
When I went to my Bible to read the rest of that chapter, it caught my attention how depressed the author was when he wrote this psalm.
That was when he needed the Lord the most.
That is when we need to be close to someone who loves us.
I don’t know where you are in your relationship with the Lord, but I can guess there is some space for a deeper passion.
You and I can both spend more time in the presence of our Lord, and flare that spark once again.
